WOW WOW WOW! That is how I describe last weekend. My weekend included everything that makes my heart sing; embracing all the activities that Mother’s Day has to offer and spending a day at the WOW event. WOW stands for every woman is a woman of worth. As always, it was a day of inspiration, connection and empowerment. Each year after being part of the WOW conference, I affirm that for each of us to live our best life, we cannot do it alone. Women supporting women is the key to living our full potential. I thank Christine Awarm, the founder of WOW for having the vision, commitment and perseverance to give us the gift of this day each year!
Today’s post is on asking for referrals to grow your business. There is no better way to let the universe know we are open to being supported by asking for and growing your business through referrals. I know asking for referrals is not always easy, so in today’s article, I share 4 tips to make asking for referrals an effortless and regular part of your business building activities.
If you are ready to take your business (or life!) to the next level i would love to work with you. I am offering for a limited time only Breakthrough Blueprint Strategy sessions. See below under Resource of the month.
Want to double your revenue and spend less time marketing? Ask for referrals
Referrals. I can’t think of a more powerful business building tool. It’s a fact: People would rather do business with people they know, or know of, than with strangers. Few things are more reassuring than a positive endorsement from someone you know and trust. One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is that they do not make asking for referrals a regular part of their marketing strategy.
Here are a few things to consider to fire up your referrals generator:
What are your beliefs about asking for referrals, do you feel comfortable or uncomfortable? Do you see it as a big part of marketing your business? Don’t feel sheepish about asking for referrals; there’s nothing pushy about it. People won’t give you referrals unless you deserve them and it feels right for them. In fact, getting a referral is the highest compliment you can receive. Let your customers know you prize referrals, which you’ll earn by providing excellent quality products and services.
2. Go the extra mile – become a master networker.
Everyone talks about “networking” like it is the silver bullet that will magically grow your business, yet most people don’t really know how to network. Bottom line, networking is about what you can give not get. Focus on developing connections with other people, understanding who they are and what is important to them. Be aware of opportunities to support others (and not necessarily just by providing your services). By being a business who gives, you become irresistibly attractive, and that is good marketing!
Part of becoming a master networker is becoming the “connector”. One of the most powerful ways to elicit referrals is to give
them generously yourself. Whenever you have the opportunity to refer an associate or bring two contacts together, do so. And when you’re attending an event, make a point of introducing people to one another. Most people will appreciate the referral, and it may inspire them to respond in kind.
4. Create a system to generate referrals
Create reminders; eventually it will becomes second nature.
Here are a couple of examples:
- After you have a great session with a client, or they give you positive feedback about your services, that is your cue to ask for a referral – ALWAYS. “John, you are an ideal client and I know you are experiencing great benefit from our work together, I am curious is there anyone in your circle of influence that you believe would experience the same benefits?”
- Create a referral incentive for your clients and circle of influence,
a free session, a gift certificate to the spa or amazon. Regularly remind your clients and circle of influence of your referral program. This incites them to tell others about your services and rewards them in the process, at relatively low cost to you in the long run.
More often then not, firing up your referral generator is just a matter of asking for referrals!
