The first goal of online marketing is to attract attention to yourself and your business by emphasizing the unique value you can deliver to a specific group of people.

Today, in the era of social media, this has never been easier. Whether you prefer to write, deliver speeches, connect through videos, create illustrations, or even just chat with people, the Big Four of Social Media will help you and your business gain exposure.

4. Youtube

By sharing your unique processes and expertise through the different online venues, your goal is to make people say, “I really enjoyed this (article, video, comment, blog post)! I want to check out the website and learn more about this (person, topic, solution).”

When people get to your site, they’ll be interested to learn more about you and see what else you have to offer them. They see your smiling face and read a little about “what’s in it for them.” They’ll spend some time reading your blog entries and/or watching your videos, absorbing the information and resources that you’ve posted to entice your ideal clients. Ideally, they learn something about you and your unique processes, and they get excited about learning more.

Passion into Profit Challenge: Determine your strategy to share your expertise through the big four of social media and make it a consistent marketing practice.

This is the first step in developing a relationship – consistently connecting with people and establishing credibility. When they get some value from this step, they will move on to the next step – investing in your services!

From time to time, you will encounter prospects that seem like an ideal client in every way – except one: their ability to pay your fees. Does that mean you shouldn’t work with them? Not necessarily.

Some people are worth offering a reduced rate. Here’s how to tell:

1. They are an ideal fit for your expertise.
2. They express a strong desire to be coached and take action.
3. They are willing to invest in coaching, but your standard fees put your services out of reach.

You may choose to offer a Scholarship Program (reduced pricing) to people who fit this profile.  Here’s how to have that conversation.

“You know, Joseph, here at (company name), I have a Scholarship Program. What that means is, for people in your position, who really want to experience coaching but are currently unable to meet my standard fees, I’m willing to be somewhat flexible with my fees in the short term.

“Joseph, I’m curious, based on where you are right now, and still honoring me as a professional, what are you willing to invest in yourself through coaching at this time?”

He might say, “I really want to do your $200 once-a-month coaching program, but that would really be a stretch for me. I could really only afford $150.”

At this point, you as a professional have to decide what you’re willing to do for that fee and what would best serve the client. You might say, “I’m willing to offer you the twice-a-month coaching package for $150 instead of $300, because I really think two coaching sessions would serve you better. Would that work for you?”

It’s very important to state your standard fee before offering the discounted rate so the client understands the value and the offer.

It’s also important to declare a time frame around this offer.

“Joseph, this is a limited time offer. Scholarships are good for three months at a time (or whatever time frame you deem appropriate). At the end of three months, we will take another look at our agreements and see if it’s time to adjust the fees. Does that sound fair to you?”

A Scholarship Program is a great way to expand your clientele, develop your fan base, and contribute – however, I strongly suggest you limit your Scholarship Program to no more than three carefully chosen participants at a time.

A word to the wise: You will encounter prospects who could pay your fees but it would really be a stretch for them. Encourage those people to stretch… not because you want the business and the fees, but because that stretch will increase their commitment to the process. They will be highly motivated to get everything they can from your coaching – and you will be highly motivated to deliver the very best support possible. When there is a lot more at stake, everyone operates at a higher level.

We just launched our Spring Passion into Profit program and commitment was a big part of our conversation. To grow your business your ability to demonstrate consistent commitment to your goals will determine your level of success.

I often say you can tell your level of commitment by the actions you take.  Many of you have the goal, dream, and hope to build a successful coaching business. Commitment proceeds success, and until you’ve made the commitment, goals are irrelevant, dreams are useless, and hopes are no more than a pipe dream.

Whether you are committing to marriage losing weight, starting a business or taking your business to the next level, consider creating a commitment pledge and get real with your commitment.

Here is an example of the pledge we use in the Passion into Profit program. (I was inspired by the pledge concept when Oprah years ago shared her pledge around commitment to loose weight and make healthy choices, yes I am a big Oprah fan)

Commitment Pledge

I, _______________________, have agreed to participate in the six month Erickson Business Centre – Passion Into Profit Program. I do so for the purpose of developing myself as a coach and an entrepreneur and creating a successful coaching business.

I agree to complete the entire 6 months of the program as it has been designed. I am fully aware of the benefits of my participation in Passion Into Profit and have decided that this program will provide the structure needed to form the habits necessary to become a successful entrepreneur and coach.

I am committed to showing up on the conference calls (Business Building, group call and Mastermind), to the best of my ability. I acknowledge that some days I may not feel like participating or may find myself with many reasons why I am unable to participate fully. At these times, I will attend the calls anyway, as a commitment to me and my fellow participants.

I also realize that there may be times of real emergency that arise and if for some reason I cannot make the call, I will communicate to the facilitator in advance. I will also listen to the audio recording shortly thereafter to keep myself up to date and on track with the homeplay.

I am willing to ask for support from my facilitator and fellow participants throughout the program, either through one-on-one communication or via the Mastermind and Groupsite.  I know that it is useful to share my thoughts, insights and challenges with the group. As additional support, I agree to connect with my PIP buddy on a weekly basis or to let them know if I cannot honour this commitment.

Most of all, I commit to enjoying the Passion Into Profit process, knowing that the experiences of the coming six months will enhance my life both personally and professionally, as I develop a successful entrepreneurial mindset.
