Re-Inventing Myself Through Masterminding

It has been a full day of masterminding, interaction and meaningful conversation.  My experience at this mastermind is a little different as it is noticeable my energy level is not the same as it has been at previous retreats.  I have been known for being the catalyst for outrageous, fun activities ( ex. impromptu enrolment of everyone running in the ocean at midnight, and……. hmmm what happens at the mastermind stays at the mastermind, well most of it happy-2).  I have to keep reminding myself I am almost 8 months pregnant and I do need to pace myself.  My enthusiasm is sometimes bigger then my energy level!

Three of us did our hot seat today.  For two of us a big part of our conversations evolved around the concept of making decisions and choices based on our true values.  It is very inspiring to be part of a group that each individual is very conscious of living their best life (which we feel a big part of that is making decisions and choices based on your values) and supporting each other in not settling for anything less.

I am a huge advocate for living valued based life,  a few years ago I wrote a  self coaching ebook called A New Approach to Goal Setting. Check it out by visiting  http://teresia.com/products/goal.html

A New Approach to Goal Setting

I never had health and fitness as a value (even though my actions showed that it has always been important) but after my hotseat I have decided to officially claim it as my highest value at this time in my life.  Being a “mature” mom and wanting to experience much in my life – it is clear without energy,  and great  health, that will not be possible.

A mastermind buddy said “If I don’t put my health first everything else falls apart”.  Being in my early 40’s and becoming a new mom – this statement really resonated with me.

Before I left for my mastermind retreat I had a very inspiring coaching session with a client, his homework was to go through my New Approach to Goal Setting ebook.

We have been working together for over 7 years and our focus has been on leveraging his business and creating his ideal lifestyle.  It was great to discover that he is fully living his values and continues to move towards the ultimate vision of his life.  He also shared that health and fitness is at the top of his values list.  It began the process of my thinking Perhaps for all of us health and fitness needs to be our number one value.  If you are a high functionally individual and committed to living a full life – reality is we need our health to be in peak performance.

At this mastermind retreat I am claiming this is my number one priority – even writing this statement, it feels a little selfish.  What about being a mother, a wife – shouldn’t those roles be first? I am reminded of the anolgy of the safety procedure when flying, we are instructed to put the oxygen mask on first before we help our loved ones.  I see making my health a priority as my oxygen mask.

My first step in reinventing as a mompreneur is to give myself permission to make working out and healthy eating the number one priority in my life.  I have journaled on what the specific actions steps are and one of the first things I will do is block these commitments into my calendar.

 My other top values include:

  • connection
  • sharing
  • growth
  • fun
  • inspiration
  • making a difference

Ahh… it is getting late, I need my “baby sleep”.  I will continue to share the other insights of my reinvention and the “ah-ha’s” from the other hotseats tomorrow.

Time flies when you are reinventing your life!

Nightie night!

Your coach in helping you live your definition of having it all!

Getting Ready for Some Official Masterminding!

I was up at 5:00 a.m this morning, perhaps excited to go to my retreat or the growing baby bump is making it harder to sleep in.happy-2 I drove to Kevin’s place, (fellow mastermind member) and before we left for our drive to La Connor together, we watched a taping of the Dali Lama from this morning’s Today Show. What did the Dali Lama have to say? What stood out to me the most was “If there is disaster and you can do something about it there is no need to worry, if you can’t do something there is no need to worry”. Isn’t there a song called “Don’t worry be happy”? – hmm can it be that simple?

Kevin shared “Worry is a prayer for what you don’t want” – I agree! My first affirmation of my retreat!

Had a wonderful day with Kevin, we had lunch in La Connor and caught up. Kevin is one of the original members of our group, we have known each other for 10 years. It was fun to reflect on all that we are grateful for; being a coach, being part of this mastermind and how our relationship has evolved over the years.

We arrived at Tracey’s home (where we are having our retreat – a beautiful 5,000 square foot home overlooking the water!) around 4:00 p.m. It was great to see everyone again!

During dinner we shared ideas of what our intention is as a group for this weekend retreat.

Here are a couple of themes that evolved:

* A blast of clarity

* A clarity that will fundamentally impact how we live the rest of our lives

* Clarity of what is your “Hell Yes” – what is the stand you want to make for your life?

* What has to happen for you to have an “extraordinary conversation’?

As we were sharing, I was reminded of how much it means to me to be part of a conversation where there is a level of intimacy, trust, mutual appreciation and “aha” moments – that to me is an extraordinary conversation!

Tomorrow is our first official day of masterminding:

We have 6 members at this time; we will each have a 2 hour “hotseat”.

“Hotseat”: One member shares what their outcome, goal, issue, challenge is and is coached and supported by the rest of us.

¨”Collective intentions create an environment that allows the members to receive information and ideas beyond what they would normally discover on their own”

I look forward to a day of “extraordinary conversations”!!

Join me tomorrow as I share some key insights and strategies from each hotseat.

My Intentions for this Year’s Mastermind Retreat

I am thinking my theme is reinvention!  “Reinventing my life from Entrepreneur to MOMpreneur”

When sharing my intentions with one of my mastermind buddies, he shared this analogy that really resonated with me:

“Teresia it sounds like you are going through the process of taking everything out of your house –putting it all on the front lawn and then consciously choosing what you want back in your house” – yup that pretty much sums it up!

 1. Revisit my priorities, values, ideal lifestyle and identify the changes I need to make to have my actions and choices align with the above.

2. Clarity on my high impact business activities – how can accomplish more with less time?  What business activities am committed to and what I will let go of?

Tune in tomorrow as I share about our first day coming together!

The Power of Intention – Mastermind Retreat

Welcome to my personal journalling of my 2010 mastermind retreat.

Be sure to bookmark this url as your favorite and and come back to visit daily. May 19th I will be posting my first journal.

I will be sharing my intentions for the retreat. Before any event, retreat, conference it is important to take the time to be clear of your intentions. An intention is: “to have in mind a purpose or plan, to direct the mind, to aim.” This helps us to leverage and maximize the opportunities and learnings we are about to step into.

BrainstormingHere are the steps I am taking to prepare for my retreat and I encourage you to do the same before you attend your next event.

 1. Get clear about something you want and write it down.

 2. Share your intention with someone in a way that will supportively hold you accountable to taking action.

 3. Do something today to demonstrate your commitment to your intention.

By setting an intention, you make it clear to yourself and others, just what you plan to do.  Setting an intention shows you are serious about your dreams.

Remember, be sure to add this to your favorites or place a shortcut on your desktop, and and follow my day to day insights:

“You can spend your life planning for success or you can arrange for all of the support you need to actually become successful.”

~ Thomas Leonard, Founder of Coach University and the International Coach Federation

As many of you know I am a big advocate for being part of a mastermind team.

If you are an entrepreneur I believe being part of a mastermind team is mandatory. It is one of the most strategic moves you can make.

Nine years ago my best friend, fellow coach and my number one cheerleader, Sonia Stringer and I decided to start our mastermind team. We picked up the phone and called other like minded individuals and invited them to be part of our team. Each member still says the same thing: “Being part of this Mastermind is the best business decision I ever made!”

When we started our group, we had no idea just how powerful an experience this would be.”

Our members are based in Canada and the United States. We are all six-figure coaches with well-established practices and are among the top 1% of coaches in the world, ranked by income.

We are committed to challenging and supporting each other to achieve… well, whatever it is that we really want!

We meet for an hour-long conference call three times a month and once a year we treat ourselves to breathtaking locations, such as staying at a Cabin in Whistler B.C, a beach house in San Diego or a cabin in Denver, Colorado for our in-person retreats.

This year we are off to La Conner, Washington for our yearly retreat!

I want to invite you to share in this weekend, as if you were there! I’ll reveal my personal experiences, insights learned from my mastermind buddies, new strategies and perspectives and areas I am personally challenged with, by posting my private journal on my blog.

Follow my day to day insights and:

• find out what really makes a powerful mastermind.
• hear about the process and structure that creates an impactful, supportive environment.
• receive tips on building your business and living your best life.
• glean learning’s from my personal breakthroughs and ongoing clarity.

Every year I walk away with a new perspective of what my life can be like, deeper insights of my dreams and personal obstacles, the gifts of unconditionally supporting others and a whole new appreciation of the saying “anything worth doing is not worth doing alone”. The level of vulnerability, tough love support, challenge and fun energizes and empowers me in a way that no other environment in my life can.

The Journey of an entrepreneur is really the journey of self discovery and to truly make your mark in the world we cannot do it alone!

“See” you in LaConnor!

Coaching you to achieve your definition of “having it all,”

Celebrating Women: Women Supporting Women

Did you know we have a day that celebrates women?

March 8, 2010 is International Women’s Day – The 2010 Theme is Progress for All.

International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900’s, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.

In the last few years of being a coach I have naturally been drawn to coaching more and more women. You may have read in past articles where I have alluded to the growth of women, how their success and contributions to the world has dramatically increased in the last two decades. Recent media articles have talked about “womenomics” the concept that male dominance in the workplace is being replaced by the fact that women account for 80% of all purchasing decisions and that women, may soon be primary breadwinners. Did you know that Canada is the fastest growing country for self employed professional women and it has tripled in the last two decades? In Canada one in 10 executives is a woman, and in the US one in five executives is a woman.

I am truly inspired! As women, we are truly stepping up to do it all! And………….. it is not always easy. In the spirit of ‘women supporting women’ I have most recently teamed up with a long time friend and colleague Cheryl Cran and we have launched a unique program for women entrepreneurs and leaders called Triple M Mastermind: Mind Money and a Life of meaning. This ongoing program is unique in its format in that a group of 8 women form a high level mastermind to assist each other in leadership and help those who own their own businesses, grow them to the next level. We believe that the next progress for all women is related to women supporting women to achieve bigger results. Celebrating women and their achievements in a non-competitive environment is a huge factor in the Triple M Mastermind and for women to create progress for all.

I have personally experienced through my own mastermind team and teaming up with other like-minded women, that the ability to receive help, collaborate and be in an supportive, non competitive environment that not only encourages, but demands thinking big, is a critical factor in women achieving success without a personal cost.

Today, on International Women’s Day, I celebrate the relationship I have with my mother, the sacred women friendships I have in my life, the women who are part of my TLC team, the inspiring, supportive business partnership I have with Cheryl and the all the women that I have had the honour of partnering up with as their coach, to witness their courage and commitment to live their best life.

The Power of “WE” – 2010 – The Year for Women (and men) to Gain Success in a New Way

“We see the connections among women are the most potentially transforming forces on the planet.”
Teresia LaRocque and Cheryl Cran

All my professional life I have been intrigued by the Power of We.  Being a solo entrepreneur I intuitively knew to create the experiences my heart desired and make the level of difference I was committed to making I could not do it alone. Since the inception of my business, I have started and been part of many groups, a few that have really have transformed my life are : The Author Circle, Cloudnine Mastermind; The Family of Women and my TLC team.

Shared experiences touch us on the deepest levels.

When a “we” space is created:

• The “we space” builds an identity
• The space is “contained” by the agreements created, and the team is defined
• Well-being and ecology as a whole become both desired and practical
• Individual strengths surface that support the “we” outcomes
• A common purpose emerges and mutual interest is experienced
• Achievement and Celebration become more meaningful

These experiences has been the catalyst for expanding my coaching practice from a 1-1 coaching model to incorporating environments of “we” space such as team coaching for the teams of my entrepreneur and executive clients, also a different form of team coaching, where two coaches work with a client to provide dual perspectives and facilitating mastermind and group programs.

With the rampant movement of what the media is calling “womenomics” (the concept that male dominance in the workplace is being replaced by the fact that women account for 80% of all purchasing decisions and that women may soon be primary breadwinners; In addition Canada is the fastest growing country for self employed professional women and it has tripled in the last two decades and In Canada one in 10 executives is a woman, and in the US one in five executives is a woman)  it has been a natural next step to ensure that women had access to one of the most strategic business tools available: being part of an innovative, unprecedented “we” space.

There is a shift and we can all feel it- 2009 was a year that had many of us recognize the need to move more towards a ‘me to we’ approach in both life and in business.

Evolutionaries, philosophers, marketers and researchers are earmarking 2010 as the year that there will be recognition in business and life of the value of feminine attributes such as collaboration, support and connection. It is these values that especially women are looking for in their work and in their lives.  However, most women have gained success through the lone ranger mentality, doing it alone, garnering success for self and resisting support and collaboration. There is a new way of gaining success where women can leverage their time, let go of the lone ranger mentality and get results with ease and effortlessness.  Women are looking to do things differently based on their values to leverage and embrace success in a new more collaborative way.

2010 is the year to  leverage and embrace success in a new more collaborative way: enter the power of the mastermind; the shift from “me” to “we”; letting go of the “lone ranger” mentality. How would your life be different if you were part of a group of like minded people who had a common purpose and was committed to sharing resources, ideas, insights in a noncompetive environment?  What I know for sure is that it transforms lives!

Join us for the Triple “M” Mastermind program is the first of its kind to be held in Vancouver, B.C., starting February 26th, 2010.  Facilitated by Teresia and Cheryl

2010 – The Year for Women to Gain Success in a New Way

I spent the morning collaborating, sharing and educating on one of my favorite topics and I am all fired up :) . (For those of you following my Valued Based Goal blogs – the above are some of my values and experiencing them fuels the fire) My partner Cheryl Cran and I were guests on the Fanny Kiefer show this morning talking about our Triple M Mastermind Program.

We talked about the fact that women are doing more than ever professionally and most are still the main caretaker of the home and family responsibilites. Women account for %80 of all purchasing decisions and soon will be the primary breadwinners. In Canada, 1 out of 10 women are executives and Canada is the fastest growing country for self employed professionals. Women truly are doing it all!

We talked about how women can leverage and embrace their success in a new more collaborative way: enter the power of the mastermind; the shift from “me” to “we”; letting go of the “lone ranger” mentality and being open to support and collaboration. In a future blog I will post the highlights of our 15 minute segment. Visit www.triplemmastermind.com and get a free audio on “The Power of a Mastermind and How It’s Different Than Coaching.”
